The Department of Psychiatry of Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital was established in   1957.Initially, it started functioning at Lok Nayak Hospital. When G.B.Pant Hospital came up in 1964,the deparment shifted there with both inpatient and outpatient facilities. University of Delhi started its firs batch of M. D. (Psychiatry) in this department . It provides tertiary health care to prople from Northern India. The department imparts training to both funded and unfunded research projects. Apart from general psychiatric care, it provides clinical services in child psychiatry, adolescent psychiatry, psycho-geriatric disorders, substance use disorders, obsessive- compulsive disorder and psychosexual disorders.
